I know that it is contrary to conventional wisdom, but generally speaking, a married couple, that is healthy, can get significantly better benefits by buying an individual long term care insurance policy, rather than buying a policy through an employer or association on a group basis.

In your case, however, it certainly made sense to go with the group coverage because of the "simplified underwriting" for your wife.

Great article! Too often we see either denial or procrastination on the subject of long-term care. The realization is that most of us will need long-term care sometime in our lives. It's hard to imagine what we will be like 30 years from now. It is important to get the information from a Long-Term Care Specialist, one with no bias toward any company. This financial crisis has changed many people into thinking that they do need to create a solid long-term care plan. How do we get the point across of how important it is to have a plan in place well before a long-term care event occurs?
