Finding Property for a Vacation Home, Second Home, or to Retire

Although we already have a lake house as a second home that we are also likely to use in retirement, I am always looking around at other vacation home property to discuss with Mrs. GoTo and to share with family and friends. If you are like me, it is fun to explore and sometimes fantasize about other places to live, some exotic and some just off-the-chart luxurious. Periodically, I even look at retirement property for sale in other countries but that will have to wait for another post on another day.
One web site that I did find is interesting because it does seem to focus on property that would be desirable for a pre-retirement vacation home, a second home, or for a baby boomer looking to relocate to enjoy a different retirement lifestyle. McKeough Land Company has property in seven different states that depending on where you live now and where you want to live after you retire could be appealing. (No, this is not a paid advertisement!) Of course, you need to be willing to invest in land first, then build. But for some boomers, that works well if you want to find a nice place for the future, without having to spend money on the house just yet.
The McKeough site includes ranch-style vacation home property in Colorado and lake property in Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. What is particularly important to me about the McKeough business model is that they offer a “buyer protection plan” that seems to cover a lot of issues that would concern me about buying vacation home or second home property in a new area.
I plan on sharing other retirement property information as I find it. Meanwhile, I am curious if any of you readers have any knowledge of any of the areas in which McKeough is offering property?
Update: McKeough is either liquidating or is in bankruptcy. It appears that many of its properties are now bank-owned and are being sold through a new entity, Terra Firma Management.

It appears McKeough Land Company is now in bankruptcy, but the new company TerraFirma, has some very nice properties for sale. Thanks for the links, now appears to be a good time to buy.
