Baby Boomer Week in Review – Pre-Inaugural Edition

Mrs. GoTo and I are the lake this weekend, enjoying some solitude.  I plan on writing more tomorrow about what it is like to spend cold winter days at a lake house so check back if you are interested in that subject.

I read or at least scan 50-100 personal finance and baby boomer blogs and websites each day.  When I find something for boomers that gets my attention, I share it here hoping that you will like it as well.

My Wealth Builder (who has been retired since October 2007) wrote about life improvements from retiring early.  I was particularly affected by the description of changes in social contacts.

Consumer Boomer reminds us that we need to include at least some alternative investments in our retirement portfolio.

Consumerism Commentary gives us some tips on how to keep your job amidst layoffs.  This is so important to boomers because we know how difficult is will be for a 50+ applicant to find another job.  (By the way, if you are in this category, you might want to read my post about the law of age discrimination.)

For those interested in real estate as an investment, Four Pillars argues that the rationalization of “they are not making any more land” is a myth.  I had to partially disagree, pointing out that they are not making any more waterfront land, excluding erosion and those amazing artificial islands being created in the mid-east.
