Welcome to Go To Retirement, a blog written by a baby boomer for baby boomers (and others) who are thinking about and preparing for retirement.
If you are new to this site or new to the world of blogging in general, I enourage you to keep reading this message to learn more about what’s here and how you can participate.
What This Blog is About
As it says in the header, this blog is truly about my journey (with my baby boomer wife) from retirement planning to retirement living. I am the sole writer, editor and publisher of this blog. I am still working full-time to support us, to put our third son through college, and to help us recover from a disastrous 2008. But I am always thinking and planning about how to achieve financial independence and about what we will do when we get there. That is what you will read about here. You will also read comments from other readers who probably know more than I do about a lot of the issues that I talk about. If you have something to say, please by all means leave a comment. At the end of each article or post, there will be a place for you to do that. If you want to know a little more about me, you can find out on my about page.
What is Here for Baby Boomers to Read and See
I write on many different topics that are important or interesting to me as a baby boomer. I hope that they will be interesting to you as well. My posts are organized into categories and sub-categories. You can see all of categories listed across the navigation bar above. If you place the cursor on one of the categories, a list of sub-categories will drop down. For example, “Social Security” is a sub-category under “Retirement Planning.”
I also publish some video content of interest to boomers that I find and import from YouTube. A “featured video” can be seen in the right sidebar of each page. There is a separate page linked above called “Boomer Videos” where other boomer video content can be seen in a larger video player. You can select from a number of different videos. Some of them are good, some average. They will change periodically so if you like to watch short video pieces about baby boomer money issues, check back on that page for newer content.
Finding What’s New and Recent
I write a new post (some people call it an article) for this blog at least 4-5 times per week. Usually, I write about issues or information that I am thinking about in my own life and my journey toward retirement. Sometimes I will find something in the news or on another blog that interests me and I will write about it here. (I read or scan the news feeds from close to one hundred other blogs and online boomer and financial news sites.)
The easiest way to receive everything that I write here is to subscribe by feed reader or by email, which you will be invited to do at the end of this post.
There are two ways to find the most recent content from the home page of my blog. First, the most recent post will be one of those displayed in the “Featured Content” window. Second, there is a list of “Recent Posts” in the right lower sidebar. You can select any one of those links to read the entire post.
Finding Your Way Around
There are many ways to find your away in and around my Go To Retirement blog site. You can start with the categories and sub-categories on the navigation bar. Clicking on one of the categories will take you to a page (or pages) where all of my posts in that category are listed with short excerpts. If you want to see a list of all posts in a category, you can click on the “Index” link in the navigation bar. The index pages show the post titles organized by category and sub-category.
You will also find “breadcrumb” links above the title of each post. The links in the breadcrumbs will help you find your way back to where you started. At the end of each post will be a list of related articles that you can select as well.
Finally, you can run key word searches in the search box near the top of the page.
Where Should I Start?
If you are a baby boomer, I hope and believe that you will find something interest in a post I wrote (or in a comment to a post). You can start by going to a category will you will find at least
Making Things Easier for Boomers to Read
If you are like me and have entered the brave new world of reading glasses, there may be times or places where you wish the text on screen was larger. What I do when that happens is hold down the CTRL key and rotate the scroll wheel on the mouse. For most Windows computers and browsers, that is the fastest and easiest way to enlarge all the text on the page.
Please Participate and Come Back Often
I probably learn as much or more from readers than they learn from me. Either way, I enjoy and appreciate feedback and comments from readers. It makes the experience of blogging and reading blogs more enjoyable and beneficial for everyone. So please join in by leaving comments.
If you have suggestions for how I can improve this site or what you would like to see discussed here, please leave a message on the Contact page.
Photo Credit: I actually took the photo you see scrolling on the home page. That is a sunset looking from the dock at our vacation home (where we hope to retire some day.) If you want to read more about our experiences in selecting and living in a lake house, use the “Vacation Home” sub-category under “Places to Retire.”
Thanks for visiting. Please come back soon.FREE UPDATES: If you enjoy what you read here, please consider subscribing to receive free updates automatically by RSS feed or by email. (I promise that your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose.)
