Compare Insurance Rates Online

If you are like me, you prefer finding and comparing insurance rates online rather than having to call a broker. Whether you are looking to save money on car insurance, health insurance or term life insurance, there are online resources available. I have some suggestions.

Health Insurance Rate Information

What if you are currently uninsured or expect to be in a situation where it might be difficult to find health insurance? In that scenario, a good starting point would be to determine what health coverages or benefits are available to you from your state government. A lot of that state coverage information is organized and presented for you at the State Coverage Initiatives site. Once there, click on the “State Profiles” link and then click on your state on the interactive U.S. map. The useful information about health insurance programs sponsored by that state can then be found by selecting the “Coverage Strategies” link directly under the state name.

To find and compare benefits and rates for health insurance coverage from private insurers, one of the best sites is eHealthInsurance. This site can provide rate information for individual and family policies as well as short term health insurance coverage. You can even apply online.

Another good site for health insurance comparison shopping is Vimo.

If you are closer to age 65, don’t forget about health coverage provided under Medicare.

Car Insurance Rate Information

Most of the major automobile insurance companies provide some rate information online. There are many sites that claim to provide unbiased comparison rate quotes online. These include insurance.com and insurancequotes.com.

Based on my own observations, as an overall resource for automobile insurance rate information and policy purchase, carinsurance.com is right at the top of the list. They are an actual online brokerage operating in all 50 states. They claim to provide rate quotes directly from multiple companies within 60 seconds.

Life Insurance Rate Information

If you are a baby boomer, you are probably not considering whole life insurance at this stage in your life. However, if you still have kids in college, etc., term insurance may be on your list.

Term4Sale.com is an excellent resource for comparing term life insurance quotes.  Because this site is operated by a software company and does not actually sell insurance, it makes this claim:

Compulife is committed to providing a database which includes every term product for which we can obtain information. Providing that we are able to obtain the rates for a term product, there is no reason for Compulife to not include that information. As a result, no other Internet web site will give you more competitive pricing information about a broader array of companies and term insurance products than Compulife.

I like it because you can get rate comparisons but do not need to supply your name, address, or phone number.

I have also compiled a list of resources for generally shopping for low cost life insurance online.

I hope you find these links helpful. If you know of any other online sources of insurance rate information, please let me know in a comment.
