I've always thought of returning to Bloomington IN home of Indiana University. The downside is that it's in Indiana but the housing is affordable; its winters aren't as bad as Ann Arbor or Madison and the arts are simply wonderful especially anything to do with their music school. The city and county are both progressive and for such a small town it is very cosmopolitan. Louisville and Indianapolis are both easy urban escapes.

I can not for the life of me comprehend how a magazine could categorize a major city like Houston (or even a smaller city like Ft.Worth, Akron or Tulsa) as a "college town". To me a college town is a town where a the culture, lifestyle and economy are driven and dominated by a college or university (even if that town might have other relatively large employers).

Gainesville Florida, Eugene Oregon, Boulder Colorado to me those are college towns.
