I have a different spin on the free lunch/dinner retirement seminars. Along with another couple (about our same age) we take the approach that an evening out with friends at a nice Nashville restaurant at no cost can be worth a few hours of our time. When the invitation arrives, we first decide if the choice of restaurant is worth our efforts to attend. We have attended presentations at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Maggianno's, and the Barn Dinner Theatre. Each representative attempts to schedule a follow up office appointment with everyone there, but there is no requirement to do it. Some folks have a hard time saying no, but we find it pretty easy. I have, in fact, met with one financial representative as a result of the seminar but found out I knew more about retirement planning than he did! We will probably continue attending these as long as the invitations keep coming and our waistline doesn't expand too much! Keep the good/useful info coming!!
